This program is designed to prepare the student to enter the work force as a home attendant or Home Health Aide. The program content provides instruction in services that assist in maintaining maximum independence and safety in the home environment. The student will learn purposes and functions of long-term care facilities, communication, respecting resident rights, employability skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, infection control, emergencies and accident prevention, fire safety and disaster preparedness, promoting resident’s independence, organization, observation and charting, and personal care needs.

 When Florida residents need supervision to manage their own medications in an Assisted Living Facility (ALFs) and/or Home care setting, they rely on Med Techs to assist them. The Med Tech certification course provides students with 6 hours of training regarding assistance with self-administration of medications in an Assisted Living Facility (ALF) or Home care setting . Southern Technical Institute Med Tech is taught by a Registered Nurse and our curriculum focuses on all aspects of the 2021 Florida laws for assistance with self- administration of medications and medication practices. Medication safety being the top priority.

NOTE: Once you successfully complete the Medication Technician training course, a two hour in-person, hands-on clinical practice session is required to meet the criteria for certification. You must call to schedule the two-hour clinical practice.
